Another exciting new name has been added to Leeds United’s list of summer transfer targets. But it’s another expensive one.
Leeds United look set to push the boat out this summer, and bring in some very exciting new players.
Inevitably though, they’ll cost a lot. It’s been reported that Leeds United will spend £100million this summer but in today’s market, that doesn’t buy you many players.
The latest name to be linked is Liverpool full-back Kostas Tsimikas.
What’s been said about Kostas Tsimikas to Leeds United?
It was reported on Wednesday that Leeds United have shortlisted Tsimikas for the left-back position this summer, amid fears that Junior Firpo will leave as a free agent next month.
Liverpool signed the Greek international, 29, in a £15million deal from Olympiacos in 2020 and he’s since won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and two League Cups with the Reds.
Leeds United are also interested in Caoimhin Kelleher who looks set to leave Anfield along with Tsimikas this summer.
Leeds United fans react to the Kostas Tsimikas rumours
Leeds fans have reacted very positively to the Tsimikas rumours. Comments ranged from “Very smart signing”, “This would be nice”, and “Get it done”.
Another fan said when asked if they’d like to see the Liverpool man arrive at Elland Road this summer: “100% yes.” And a similar post read: “Yes, 100%, he is a quality player.”
This Leeds United supporter wrote: “Would absolutely go for him, but I’m not sure Liverpool will part with him for a low fee.” And a similar comment read: “This is exactly the signing I’d be all over if we are serious about building the club back up.”
But one Leeds United fan was worried that deals for Tsimikas and Kelleher would leave the club short on funds for the rest of the summer rebuild.
They posted: “The problem here is that Kelleher and Tsimikas would blow almost our entire budget for this window.
“When we don’t buy them and end up with lesser players, fans will feel let down because of these unrealistic links. “Would love to be proved wrong, but not holding my breath.”
It’s not yet known how much Liverpool would command for Tsimikas this summer. He remains under contract until 2027.
