Leeds United might want to think twice before signing one of their rumoured transfer targets this summer.
Leeds United really have to get things right this summer. The last two seasons in the Premier League have seen the three promoted teams all relegated at the first time of asking, with the gulf in quality between established Premier League teams and new ones growing.
And for Daniel Farke, his job will be on the line if he makes a poor start to next season, especially given the rumours that Leeds United wanted to sack Farke following promotion to the Premier League.
Thankfully we’re seeing some exciting names linked with a move to Elland Road ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 1st. But there’s also a few questionable potential signings mentioned too.
Leeds United fans are unimpressed with Jamie Vardy’s links to the club ahead of his contract expiry. Elsewhere though, it’s been claimed that Leeds United want to raid a certain Championship club, for a player who once cost £18million.
Leeds United target Grady Diangana given ruthless review after West Brom exit
Before the end of the 2024/25 season, it was reported that Grady Diangana was a target for Farke. It was claimed that Leeds United want to sign Diangana on a free transfer this summer and now the Congolese international has officially been released by the Baggies.
On Thursday, West Brom confirmed that Diangana is leaving as a free agent this summer, five years after joining from West Ham in an £18million deal. Speaking to Express & Star, former West Brom midfielder and now pundit Andy Johnson gave his verdict on Diangana, and it’s not great.
He said: “Grady is probably the most frustrating player I’ve ever seen in an Albion shirt. That kid can do things with a football I and most of us can only ever dream of doing, but we don’t see it enough.”
Daniel Farke needs to set a precedent in the transfer market this summer
Diangana is a player with ability, like Johnson says. But he’s not someone who’s provided on a regular basis and he’s not someone who’s ever really impressed in the Premier League. So for Leeds United this looks like a really underwhelming signing.
And if Farke goes out and signs Diangana it really sets a precedent. It suggests that Leeds United are shopping in the bargain bin and that they’re not ready to be all that ambitious in the transfer market.
The contrary needs to be true. Leeds United really need to make a positive example in the window early on, show everyone that they’re ready to compete, and that in turn will help them attract bigger and better players than the likes of Diangana.
