Leeds United released their retained list last week, with few surprises in it as the Whites gear up for the Premier League.
Leeds United released their retained list recently. There are 10 youngsters leaving the club whilst Josuha Guilavogui is leaving Leeds United as a free agent, after playing his role in the road to the Championship title.
It marks the very start of what could be a summer transfer window that shapes Leeds United’s fortunes for many years to come. Daniel Farke has a mammoth summer ahead of him and his job could well be on the line if he doesn’t do the correct business.
Leeds United have several transfer targets so far. Farke though looks to be already very light on full-backs with the futures of Sam Byram and Junior Firpo already up in the air. Byram has said he wants to stay at Leeds United but the future of Firpo is much more uncertain.
Leeds United have offered lucrative new contract to Junior Firpo
Firpo is strongly linked with a move away this summer. He has a number of clubs interested around Europe including Real Betis and even Barcelona, according to reports. Meanwhile there is Premier League interest in Firpo too, with Crystal Palace and Everton among those keen.
And a new report from Estadio Deportivo in Spain has now confirmed that Firpo has been offered a lucrative new contract to stay with Leeds United. The same report goes on to add that the 28-year-old full-back will make a decision on where his future lies in the coming weeks.
Speaking in a recent interview, Firpo said he’d like to play for his favourite team Betis again one day, but he also suggested that he’d be happy to stay at Leeds United as well.
Leeds United deal for Junior Firpo replacement hangs in the balance
Farke can’t wait too long for Firpo to make a decision on his future. Even if he does stay, there’s still a distinct lack of full-backs at the club and so it’s understandable that Farke has his eye on a few right now.
Seemingly the main left-back target right now is Hugo Bueno. The latest on the Wolves man is that Feyenoord are desperate to sign Bueno again this summer, having had the Spaniard on loan for the 2024/25 season.
What happens with a potential deal for Bueno in the next week or so could easily have an influence on whether or not Firpo stays, as he’d want to ensure that he’s the starting left-back should he stay at Elland Road.
Likewise, whether or not Firpo decides to stay will surely have an influence on how hard Leeds push to sign Bueno.
