Report: The two players Leeds United could sell this summer for 'sizeable PSR boost'

Financial Outlook Following Promotion

Despite recording a substantial loss of £61 million in the 2023–24 financial year, Leeds United’s elevation to the Premier League promises a significant influx of revenue. The published accounts, which did not factor in the summer departures of key players such as Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville, underline the scale of the deficit. However, parachute payments and top-flight distributions will bolster the club’s transfer budget.

Even with new funds arriving, the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) continue to constrain net spending. To comply with these regulations, the club may still need to generate sale proceeds before reinvesting heavily in the squad.

Players Linked With Summer Departures

Leeds have already identified two candidates whose departures could alleviate PSR pressures and unlock further spending power: Pascal Struijk and Willy Gnonto.

Pascal Struijk

Struijk joined Leeds as a teenager from Ajax in January 2018 for a modest fee and has since matured into the team’s vice-captain. Reports suggest that a transfer valuation of around £25 million could be placed on the left-footed defender. Should that materialise, Leeds would record a profit north of £24 million, satisfying a significant portion of their PSR requirement. Interest is said to exist from PSV Eindhoven ahead of the new campaign.

Willy Gnonto

Signed from FC Zurich in summer 2022 for approximately £5 million, Gnonto has attracted suitors including Everton and Bundesliga side Freiburg. A sale in the region of £20 million would represent a fourfold return on investment. While the winger was instrumental in Leeds’ promotion push, his departure could free up funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.
