Report: Leeds United take a step closer to signing Liverpool player

Leeds United are in the market for a new left-back with Junior Firpo expected to leave the club, despite the retained list stating The 49ers remain in talks over a new contract.

Reports say that those at Leeds are ‘widely anticipating’ Firpo to depart even though the club say they are still locked in talks for the Dominican Republic international. Lazio and Atletico Madrid want to sign Firpo.

With Firpo set to go, Leeds need a new left-back and plenty have been linked with a move to Elland Road. Tottenham’s Ben Davies, Wolves-owned Hugo Bueno and plenty of others, since the end of the season.

Another left-back linked with Leeds recently is Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas. The 40-time Greece star started for Liverpool on Monday night, during a 3-2 loss to Brighton having won the Premier League title.

Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Tsimikas is on the Leeds list, even if he could become the club’s highest-paid player. Meanwhile, Liverpool are closing in on a left-back signing of their own.

Fabrizio Romano says Liverpool are in advanced talks to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth, with a fee of £45m set to change hands. It leaves Arne Slot’s side with three left-backs and a decision to make.

FourFourTwo now say that Liverpool have chosen to keep Andy Robertson as competition for Hungary star Kerkez, and that means The Reds are now open to offers for Tsimikas amid interest from Elland Road.

How much Liverpool want for Konstantinos Tsimikas this summer

It is not as if Liverpool are under any pressure to sell Tsimikas. The left-back has two years remaining on his Liverpool contract but The Reds are open to an exit if their asking price is met in the next few months.

It is claimed Liverpool want a £15m fee for Tsimikas, with Leeds keen on doing a £40m double deal for both Tsimikas and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher. A big chunk of Leeds’ transfer budget this summer.

But, two crucial areas that require strengthening going into the Premier League season and the battle to avoid relegation. With Joe Rothwell departing, Tsimikas would also give Leeds a set-piece specialist.
