A new striker is something Leeds United are clearly pursuing this summer with doubts remaining over Joel Piroe’s ability to do it in the Premier League next season.
The £16m Leeds signing scored 19 goals and had a hand in 26 in total during 2024-25, but Piroe has not played a single minute in the Premier League. Even in the Championship, there were doubts over Piroe.
Mateo Joseph started the season as first choice and prior to his four goals against Stoke, Piroe had failed to score in nine consecutive Championship matches. The doubts over Piroe in the top tier are only fair.
Leeds have been linked with a number of strikers. The latest is Everton forward Beto, though David Moyes has made a u-turn and wants to keep Beto at Everton. Another is England international Tammy Abraham.
Jose Mourinho wants to battle Leeds for Tammy Abraham signing
Having clocked up 120 appearances for Roma, Abraham has spent the last season on loan at AC Milan where he has been used as a rotational option. Playing 43 times for Milan, he has started just 16 matches.
In that time, Abraham has still managed to have a hand in 17 goals – scoring 10 and creating seven. Good numbers given his lack of game time and yet, Milan are yet to make a decision on whether to sign him.
Graeme Bailey has told LeedsUnited.News that Abraham is on Leeds’ radar. But now, Turkish site Takvim say Jose Mourinho wants to lure Abraham to Fenerbahce for next season, with just £12.5m required.
Abraham links come after Mourinho turns down Leeds job
Mourinho had been expected to leave Fenerbahce this summer after two years in Turkey but as per the report, Mourinho wants Abraham to replace Edin Dzeko and Youssef En-Nesyri – suggesting he remains.
It comes after Mourinho was linked with the Leeds job, before Paraag Marathe confirmed Farke would remain as Leeds manager. Richard Keys however, has said that Mourinho turned down Marathe’s offer.
Whether Marathe had offered Mourinho the Leeds job will remain unknown. What is for sure, is that Abraham’s future is unclear and interest in his services is growing with Milan yet to sign him permanently.
