It now looks like Leeds United are set to miss out on one of their reported transfer targets this summer, and it’s one signing that could’ve really made a difference for Daniel Farke.
Daniel Farke and Leeds United have a few things to really nail in the summer transfer window, one such thing being the signing of a new goalkeeper.
Illan Meslier is tipped to leave Leeds United after a very mixed 2024/25 season in the Championship, which saw him replaced with Karl Darlow in the final weeks of the campaign.
And the Frenchman might have plenty of options. Throughout the season he had links elsewhere with Rennes linked with a move for Meslier, and at one point it was claimed that Man United were keen.
In his place, Leeds United have been linked with several goalkeepers. Aaron Ramsdale is one: the Southampton shot-stopper looks set to leave the club this summer but he has interest from elsewhere, with Chelsea reportedly keen.
The same can be said of Caoimhin Kelleher too.
Leeds United transfer target Caoimhin Kelleher now wanted by Aston Villa
Recently, Leeds United News revealed that Leeds United have held talks over signing Kelleher this summer. But the Whites aren’t alone with several top Premier League clubs taking a look at the Irishman this summer, including Chelsea and Newcastle United. And now, Aston Villa are interested in the 26-year-old, who’s valued between £30-40million according to reports.
It’s rumoured that Argentina goalkeeper Emi Martinez could leave Villa Park this summer with Barcelona and Man United among the teams supposedly interested in signing him. And The Sun say that Aston Villa ‘have joined the hunt’ to sign Kelleher as a direct replacement for Martinez, should he leave.
Kelleher is desperate to play regular first-team football next season and he’d surely get that at Villa if Martinez leaves. What’s more is that Unai Emery’s side could yet offer Champions League football to Kelleher next time round.
The latest on Leeds United’s goalkeeper search
Despite the club definitely needing to sign a new goalkeeper this summer, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of movement on that front right now.
Kelleher is obviously a hot topic but Leeds United are just one of the teams interested. And the same can largely be said of Ramsdale who is now a target for Man United as well.
And it’s been reported that Ramsdale wants to stay in England this summer despite having interest from clubs overseas.
Lastly, Leeds United have been linked with Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen but little has been said of that link since it first emerged earlier in the summer.
