Leeds United continue to be linked with a plethora of new signings following promotion to the Premier League and one recently-touted transfer target wants to return to the United Kingdom.
With promotion to the Premier League secured, the Championship trophy firmly tucked away in the trophy cabinet at Elland Road and Monday’s parade done – focus will now be on the 2025-26 season.
Leeds are fully aware that money will need to be spent and recruitment has to be spot on if they are to survive in England’s top tier – with all three promoted sides relegated in their first season, in 2024-25.
Plenty of cash will need to be spent to build a squad capable of quashing the talk over Daniel Farke’s inability to survive in the Premier League. Now, one transfer target wants to return to these shores.
Leeds and Rangers eye bargain deal for attacker Moussa Djenepo
Described as “really amazing” by Ralph Hasenhuttl while he was at Southampton, Moussa Djenepo’s career has gone downwards since his Southampton spell. The Saints paid £15m for him back in 2019.
But after four years, he returned to the club he left for Southampton – in Standard Liege. This season, he has been on loan in Turkey with Antalyaspor and this summer, he wants to leave Liege with Leeds keen.
Indeed, both Leeds and Rangers are said to be interested with Djenepo boasting a bargain release fee of just £1.7m. Now, The Sun claim Djenepo wants to return to the United Kingdom in the next few months.
The 49ers are in dreamland if Moussa Djenepo is a genuine target
With The 49ers and Paraag Marathe at an advanced stage to do a deal for Scottish giants Rangers, a move to land Djenepo looks promising. The 33-time Mali star though, has struggled in recent years.
While he boasts Premier League experience and is available on the cheap, he is hardly playing at a level that would convince Leeds fans. Certainly, he may be more of a target for Rangers at this current stage.
There is a player in Djenepo, but it remains to be seen if he can return to the form that saw Southampton pay £15m to sign him six years ago. He is yet to turn that potential into proven quality at the top.
