Leeds United transfer news & rumours as James McAtee exit closer and Konstantinos Tsimikas future ‘uncertain’

All the latest Leeds United news and transfer rumours for Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

The transfer window has not officially opened yet but the rumours are beginning to pick up pace at Leeds United.

Daniel Farke will be looking to strengthen his squad considerably this summer and a hectic window is anticipated for Leeds.

Here are the latest Leeds transfer rumours.

Pep Guardiola pushes James McAtee to Man City exit

Farke wants to add a new playmaker to his squad this summer after Brenden Aaronson’s struggles in the Championship and James McAtee has emerged as a target.

A £35m price tag has been placed on McAtee by Manchester City and a departure is looking more likely after he was completely axed from Pep Guardiola’s squad for their FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace.

Shearer has urged McAtee to leave City as well, saying on The Rest is Football: “He’s not getting in their team. He’s another one that is going to have to leave.”

McAtee proved with his loan spell at Sheffield United that he can be effective in the Premier League if given a chance.

How Leeds United can sign Konstantinos Tsimikas from Liverpool

Leeds remain in talks with Junior Firpo ahead of his contract expiring but it looks as if the defender is heading back to Spain.

Should Firpo leave, then a new left-back will become a massive priority for Leeds in the summer transfer window, especially given how much Farke relies on his full-backs for width.

Liverpool’s Konstantinos Tsimikas is emerging as a potential replacement and the deal could happen if the reigning champions sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

The Daily Mail reports a move for Kerkez would leave Tsimikas’ future at Anfield ‘uncertain’, with Leeds interested in signing the Greek.

A price of £15m has been touted but Liverpool will likely have to get their new left-back in first before sanctioning a sale.

Leeds eyeing Promise David

A striker is also high on Leeds’ wishlist this summer, with Joel Piroe’s ruthlessness being questioned and the futures of Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford looking likely to be away from Elland Road.

The latest name to be linked with a move is Royale Union Saint-Gilloise’s talented 23-year-old Promise David, with the Canadian scoring 22 times in the Belgian top flight this term.

Former Leeds boss and current Canada manager Jesse Marsch is a big fan of David, saying after calling him up to the international team: “Promise David has had a great season.

“I’ve visited him, he and I have been in a lot of contact over the last four or five months.

“I’ve watched him, we’ve talked a lot about his progress there. He’s excited about joining the Canada National Team. Both of these are big talents [Daniel Jebbison and David]. They fit the way we play.”
