Leeds United won the Championship title over the weekend on their way to the Premier League, having won it at the death against Plymouth Argyle.
It was a third crown for Daniel Farke but his first for Leeds at the second time of asking, with the Whites also winning their second title in five years in the process.
They had to rebuild over the summer, but the decisions at the club were spot on for the most part and set Leeds up for success this season. Even after losing Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, and Crysencio Summerville, they have been the outstanding team in the Championship.
The likes of Ao Tanaka, Jayden Bogle, and Manor Solomon helped reconfigure Leeds’ attack and Farke struck a different balance with his new-look Leeds team. The latter was the player who secured the title, though, but it was just one of the wins which was most crucial in securing Leeds’ promotion.
Leeds United’s most vital wins of the 2024/25 season
Here, we look at the other wins of Leeds’ 29 this season which proved to be the most vital on the way to securing 100 points in a record-breaking season — and on their way to becoming title winners.
Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Leeds United
Where better to start than with Leeds’ first win of the campaign? A Mateo Joseph MOTM performance secured three crucial points at Hillsborough after a difficult week where Rutter’s departure had stung many. Timely, to say the least.
Leeds United 2-0 Sheffield United
One of the most raucous atmospheres of the season came against the Blades on matchday 10, with Leeds securing the points after late goals from Pascal Struijk and Joseph. Struijk’s stunner almost lifted the roof off of Elland Road.
Swansea City 3-4 Leeds United
Late goals became a theme of Leeds’ season early on but few were bigger than Willy Gnonto’s 91st minute winner in a seven-goal thriller in South Wales. It came just over a minute after Swansea City’s equaliser to boot.
Leeds United 3-1 Middlesbrough
At the time, this was a monumental clash and one Leeds felt they needed to win after their third defeat of the season against Blackburn Rovers just two days prior. Middlesbrough were flying and Dan James and Brenden Aaronson’s late goals secured a particularly crucial three points.
Derby County 0-1 Leeds United
The Christmas period is usually a miserable time for Leeds fans, but a late win against Derby came via one of their goals of the season from Aaronson — and it sealed three wins in a row in the process. It was a massive week in their season after thrashing Oxford United and brushing aside Stoke City, consolidating their place at the top.
Leeds United 7-0 Cardiff City
One of the biggest wins in Championship history, as well as one of Leeds’ biggest in recent memory, Cardiff City was arguably the most fun day out of the season for punters. It was a timely utter humiliation after the bore draw against Burnley and an uneventful transfer window, reminding both the fans and players of what this team is truly capable of at its scintillating best.
Coventry City 0-2 Leeds United
At a time when Frank Lampard’s side were flying, Leeds came and showed why they were favourites for the title and had been all season. It could’ve been seven again, just mere days after mauling Cardiff. Leeds had hit their flow state.
Watford 0-4 Leeds United
See the above description for Leeds’ third win in a row after the transfer window. Simply devastating.
Leeds United 2-1 Sunderland
One of the great nights at Elland Road, Leeds left it late yet again to find a way back in against a resolute Sunderland. A true performance of champions under the lights to all but knock the Black Cats out of contention thanks to Pascal Struijk’s wonderful head.
Sheffield United 1-3 Leeds United
The fifth win in a row during Leeds’ most difficult run of games of the season. The Whites were tertible for half-an-hour before showing why they belonged where they were in the table for the remainder of the game. The limbs at Bramall Lane were magnificent as were Ao Tanaka and Joel Piroe’s late goals in equal measure for very different reasons.
Middlesbrough 0-1 Leeds United
Middlesbrough again? This was much-needed at a time when some were starting to get deja vu. Leeds had won just once in six and relinquished their grip on the top two but they simply didn’t look back after Dan James’ goal to spark a run of six wins on the bounce.
Oxford United 0-1 Leeds United
Leeds had not been the kind of team to grind things out but it was not a bad habit to begin starting at the run-in stage of the season. Joe Rodon was a colossus and Leeds knew it was all oh so close after a ground out win away to Oxford United.
Leeds United 6-0 Stoke City
Irrespective of the outcome just mere hours later, Leeds showed exactly why they were first in the league for 24 of the 46 matchdays of the campaign here with another standout display. It was a performance of promotion winners and became as much after Burnley defeated Sheffield United 2-1 to spark the wildest of wild celebrations down at Elland Road post-match.
Leeds United 4-0 Bristol City
This was arguably Leeds’ best and most complete performance of the entire season. With the pressure off, it was pure fun without the handbrake on under the lights and placed one hand on the title in the process. Leeds romped past Bristol City despite the Robins having promotion aspirations of their own. It was men against boys.
Plymouth Argyle 1-2 Leeds United
Those late goals, eh? They were back for one final time to ensure the title headed to West Yorkshire over East Lancashire. It was the Championship version of Sergio Aguero vs QPR, it was Solomon, 90+1, 2-1, and it was absolutely breathtaking. The Championship at its very best.
Leeds’ record-breaking number of wins
For most of the season, Leeds have been utterly relentless and totally ruthless. They secured more victories (29) than they have ever managed in a league campaign as well.
The end of their season saw them lose just once in 28 matches and draw just eight of those as well. Their dominance was too much for anyone else in the division to handle and they were deservedly crowned champions.
Wins will be much harder to come by as regularly next term, such is the gap between the Championship and the Premier League. However, this has been a year to remember and one for Leeds fans to cherish forever, which they certainly managed during the parade on Monday.
