Leeds United will travel to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday for the final fixture of the season, where a victory will secure the Championship trophy under the stewardship of manager Daniel Farke.
The Whites have strung together five consecutive wins, and a sixth triumph will deliver the title. Plymouth, resigned to the likelihood of defeat, have already made arrangements for Leeds’ celebrations at Home Park.
However, Leeds cannot afford complacency. Plymouth are still fighting to avoid relegation and require not only a win but an extraordinary 14-goal swing in goal difference to remain in the division.
Victory for Leeds would guarantee top spot. Alternatively, matching Burnley’s result against Millwall at Turf Moor will suffice to keep Daniel Farke’s side ahead when the season concludes.
Fitness Updates on James and Firpo
After the 4-0 win over Bristol City, Farke revealed there is a “slim chance” that forward Dan James could feature on Saturday, despite a recent hamstring injury sustained against Middlesbrough.
James missed the Preston fixture but returned as a substitute at Oxford United, albeit not at full sharpness. Meanwhile, Junior Firpo is also battling a minor hamstring issue.
“Firpo couldn’t train today but might tomorrow,” Farke explained. “If James takes part in team training, he’ll travel due to his importance. It’s another tight call for both players.”
Other Injury News
Defender Pascal Struijk has been ruled out for the season after suffering a foot injury at Luton Town, and midfielder Isaac Schmidt missed the Bristol City match because of ongoing knee problems.
Meanwhile, Joe Rothwell, who was expected to be available for the Bristol game, only joined the squad for the post-match celebrations. Farke confirmed that Rothwell can resume training and could make the matchday squad, though he is unlikely to last the full 90 minutes.
“Pascal Struijk and Sam Chambers are definitely out,” Farke added. “The rest of the squad is ready to go.”
Head-to-Head Record
Prior to last season’s four meetings with Plymouth—two in the league and two in the FA Cup following a replay—Leeds had not played Argyle since 2007. In five encounters since then, Leeds have recorded four victories.
