Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted some players could leave his club this summer. And Leeds United are a possible destination for two of them.
Leeds United will look to scour all kinds of transfer markets this summer as Daniel Farke gears his side up for what will be a gruelling Premier League campaign next season.
We’re already seeing links to some big-money players on the continent with Leeds United considering a bid for Leonardo Balerdi at Marseille, who could cost the club a record fee of £38million.
And we’re of course seeing links to several players in England with James McAtee a target for Leeds United once again, along with the likes of Kyle Walker-Peters at Southampton and many others.
But Celtic now have a couple of players who have caught Leeds United’s attention: Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda. Leeds United were linked with Kuhn earlier in the year and links have persisted since, whilst Maeda is a more recent target.
Brendan Rodgers hints at Celtic sales as Leeds United eye Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda
Leeds United are interested in signing Maeda from Celtic after his 16 goal season in the Scottish Premiership. It’s also been claimed that Celtic would sell Maeda for £25million but whether or not the Whites would pay that much for a 27-year-old Scottish Premiership player remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has been speaking about potential player sales at his club this summer, and he’s not exactly ruled them out. He told Daily Record: “We all know fine well here there is a player trading model. That means we will probably get offers for some of our players in the summer. If that happens, then we have to be flexible and ready to adapt to that.
“If I said everyone now would be here then we’d maybe only be looking at two or three new players coming in of high quality. But we have to see.”
Nicolas Kuhn and Daizen Maeda’s stats when playing together at Celtic
Both Kuhn and Maeda have shone this season. Kuhn is a right winger and Maeda is a left winger, and both have really banged in the goals this season scoring 29 in the league between them (16 for Maeda and 13 for Kuhn, with 10 and nine league assists respectively).
And the pair have a very good connection on the pitch. In 52 games played together at Celtic, they’ve averaged 2.42 points-per-game and have been directly involved in 10 goals together.
With Manor Solomon to Leeds United still very much up in the air, signing one of Maeda or Kuhn, or even both would give Leeds United some very good options on the flanks.
But they could prove very costly with Celtic likely to hike up the price tag, albeit looking like they’re open to offers this summer.
