‘Move on’: Don Goodman tells Leeds United they have to sell five-goal attacker

Summer Shake-up Looms at Elland Road: Stars Head for the Exit?

Leeds United are gearing up for a major overhaul this summer, and it won’t be all additions to the squad. With Premier League survival the priority, the Whites must free up wages and raise cash by offloading those deemed unable to cut it at the top level.

Several fringe players, including the likes of Sam Greenwood and Jack Harrison, find their futures hanging in the balance. But the most intriguing case is that of Joe Gelhardt, who, despite a contract until 2027, has all but fallen off Daniel Farke’s radar after minimal game time this season.

In my view, Leeds cannot afford to be sentimental. The club needs every penny to reinvest, and if a transfer can deliver both funds and first-team minutes elsewhere for these players, it’s a price worth paying.

Don Goodman Demands Leeds Move on Gelhardt After Stunning Hull Return

Joe Gelhardt’s loan spell at Hull City has reignited debate over his future. The 23-year-old bagged five crucial goals for the Tigers in their survival push, proving he can perform under pressure when given the chance.

Yet back at Elland Road, Gelhardt managed just nine Championship minutes before his January departure. That lack of opportunity raises the question: why keep a youngster match-sharp only to leave him warming the bench?

Goodman’s Candid Verdict

Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has been vocal about the forward’s situation, arguing that it’s “pointless keeping him at the football club” if Leeds can’t find a path for his development. In his eyes, a permanent sale or another loan is the best route.

“He was a shining light at Wigan, everyone had big hopes,” Goodman said. “But sometimes potential needs to be matched by opportunity – and Leeds haven’t provided that.” His take suggests this summer could be Gelhardt’s defining moment.

Personally, I back Goodman’s stance. If Leeds truly believe in Gelhardt’s talent, they should find a club willing to give him consistent starts rather than leaving him to stagnate.

Hull City Could Be the Make-or-Break Destination for Gelhardt

Ruben Selles has earned a reputation for unlocking young players and Hull City provided Gelhardt with the platform he needed. Under Selles, the forward thrived across multiple roles, showcasing the versatility Leeds once praised him for.

A second stint at the MKM Stadium, whether on loan or permanently, could be a win-win. Leeds clear space in their wage bill and boost Gelhardt’s market value; Hull secure a player already comfortable in their system.

Editorial verdict: If Leeds are serious about maximizing their assets, they should at least entertain Hull’s advances. In football, sometimes the best path forward is the one that leads elsewhere.
