‘Quality player’… Leeds United fans in agreement as Daniel Farke adds a new name to his shortlist

Leeds United fans have been very vocal on social media this summer, as their club continue to be linked with more and more players.

So far this summer, there’s been a large number of players linked with Leeds United. Some of whom have made for very exciting transfer rumours whilst others have done little to excite the Elland Road faithful.

Daniel Farke though looks set to spend big and we’ll surely see a handful of marquee signings this summer, with reports that Leeds United are set to spend £100million on new signings.

One player who could command a sizeable chunk of that money is Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes.

Leeds United join the race to sign Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes

On Friday it was revealed that Leeds United are interested in signing Fernandes, 20, following his impressive maiden season in England with Southampton. Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are also rumoured to be interested.

Soon after, journalist Alan Nixon tipped Leeds United to win the race for Fernandes, who is rumoured to be worth £30million at Southampton who’ve already been relegated back to the Championship.

But it’s since been reported that Southampton want much more than £30million for Fernandes, although an exact price tag remains to be reported.

Fernandes has been a shining light for Southampton despite their tragic Premier League season, scoring twice and assisting three more in 35 Premier League games from the heart of midfield.

“YES YES AND YES,” said one Leeds United fan in response to the Fernandes rumours. “Please Leeds,” read another comment.

Others weighed in, too. One fan posted: “I’d definitely take him he’s a quality player,” though many Leeds United fans think this would be a tricky deal to pull off.

“Would take him, can’t see it happening though,” said one supporter, as similar comments read: “Would be a fantastic signing if we could pull this one off,” and also: “Be very tough to get over the line but this would be a class signing.”

Nixon backing Leeds United to win the race here could be a positive sign. But it appears as though the Whites will have to go well north of this apparent £30million valuation to stand a chance of signing Fernandes this summer.
