Leeds United have their sights on a couple of West Ham players in Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, ahead of the summer transfer window.
The summer transfer window opens on June 1st for clubs in the Premier League. For Leeds United, it’s a massive summer in both their long and short-term future, and a pivotal summer for Daniel Farke.
After the club secured promotion from the Championship, there were rumours that Leeds United could sack Farke and replace him with a manager with more pedigree at Premier League level.
That speculation has since been quashed and Leeds are seemingly getting straight to work on potential summer signings, with no end of rumours and talk about potential transfer targets at Elland Road.
Two such targets are Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal. It’s been reported that Leeds United want to sign Soucek in a potential £20million idea, whilst Coufal is set to be released by West Ham, with Leeds keen on a free transfer.
Tomas Soucek says Vladimir Coufal will be a ‘big miss’ amid Leeds United transfer rumours
Although Leeds United are set to spend £100million on new signings this summer, the club will surely target their share of free agents too, like Coufal. He’s one of many Premier League players out of contract in 2025 and his Hammers teammate and Czech compatriot Soucek says he’ll miss the 32-year-old.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Soucek has joked that he’ll be asking Coufal where he’s going to sign this summer, and Coufal arriving at Elland Road could well be an in for Farke to also sign Soucek at Leeds United.
Soucek said: “I’ll be asking him to tell me first where he’s going! It’ll be a big miss for me, and the club as well. It’ll be tough not to see him every day, but that’s football.”
Tomas Soucek’s record when playing alongside Vladimir Coufal
Coufal has 53 caps for Czech Republic and Soucek has 79. They’ve been key players for the Hammers over the last few years and both arriving at Elland Road would be a huge coup for Farke, who’d land two quality players and two players who have played a lot of football together.
Coufal and Soucek have played more games with each other than any other player in their careers…
Having such connections on the pitch is always a benefit for teams. And for Leeds United it would be of extra help to have two Premier League-proven players, in what is inevitably going to be a very tough 2025/26 campaign.
But the race for Soucek in particular looks like a difficult one for Leeds, especially considering that Soucek actually wants to stay at West Ham this summer, despite rumours he’s set to be sold.
